All-Star catcher Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins are continuing extension talks regarding the length of Mauer's sideburns. If the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, Mauer's future in Minnesota will remain uncertain.

"I'm pretty happy with my sideburn length," said Mauer. "But some guys in marketing think I need to change what I got going, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that."

Twins front office personnel, particularly their marketing department, feel that longer, extended sideburns for Mauer will generate more revenue for the team.

"Well, we already sell those novelty sideburns that you can stick on your face and pretend you're Joe Mauer," said the club's marketing director. "If he could grow those babies an inch or two longer, or maybe rock some lamb chops, we'd be in business. Just think how much more we could charge if we were selling a larger novelty sideburn. For a small market club we could be talking and extra two to three thousand dollars per year. That's some serious cash."
