With few takers early on in their quest to trade Tracy McGrady, the Houston Rockets may be looking locally to move their former franchise player. Players from a local pick-up game in need of a regular tenth player have expressed some mild interest, and are willing to talk to the Rockets about acquiring T-Mac.
"Well, we've been in need of a consistent tenth player for quite some time now," said a regular at a Houston area pick-up game that takes place every Saturday afternoon. "We've had several guys come and go, but we'd really like to have the same guys show up consistently. Maybe McGrady can fill that void."
Added another player, "Yeah, we'd like to play with McGrady, as long as he can assure us that his entire leg won't fall off if he plays too many games in a row."
Despite having virtually nothing to offer, and having no affiliation with the NBA, the pick-up game is at the top of the Rockets list of suitors interested in T-Mac.
"Due to the size of his contract [$23 million], we knew he'd be difficult to move," said a team spokesman. "But maybe the nine guys at the pick-up game can throw something together. We're even willing to throw in some Subway coupons or something to sweeten the deal."
