In an interesting piece of news, the Ohio State and Michigan State football programs have announced to their recruits that they will never have to practice. This comes on the heels of the allegations at Michigan.
"We don't want to over work these guys," said a member of the Ohio State staff. "Granted, football is important to us, but they need a good life balance. We want our players to win football games, but to also enjoy the college experience."
Michigan State feels the same way.
"Life is about more than football," said a Spartan staffer. "A rare few will make the NFL, so we need to prepare these guys for their careers after college athletics."

Michigan officials are looking into the alleged 3-9 season that took place last year under new head coach Rich Rodriguez. If it turns out to be true that the team was practicing roughly 846 hours per week as is being reported, a 3-9 season at Michigan seems unfathomable.
"I can't remember ever having a losing season in my lifetime, let alone one this bad," said a university official. "Michigan football didn't go 3-9. There's no way. I don't know who started that rumor. Probably the same people that say Notre Dame and Florida St. aren't national powers anymore. Just ridiculous."
If these allegations of a 3-9 season turn out to be true, the football program faces an uphill battle.
Said a member of the coaching staff, "If we really went 3-9 last year, then we need to get to work. We'll need to practice harder, lift more, and watch more film. Players will be here all day if they have to be."

Former Duke guard, Greg Paulus, will be playing some quaterback for Syracuse this year. He's picked up right where he left off, and it was reported that he drew 3 charges at the latest practice for the Orange.
"It's nice that he still knows how to draw a charge," said a member of the Syracuse coaching staff. "I'm just not sure that falling down is the greatest idea in football. I mean, that will count as a 7 or 8 yard loss for us if he just flops to his back. I know contact is frowned upon in basketball, but in Big East football, tackling is actually encouraged."

In a shocking story, a current or former Division I head basketball coach from the state of Kentucky didn't get into any trouble last night. Ken McDonald, head men's basketball coach at Western Kentucky, simply enjoyed a nice meal at home with his family. With the reports involving Rick Pitino, John Calipari and Billy Gillispie, this news rocked the basketball hotbed of Kentucky.
"I'm not really sure what the big deal is," said McDonald. "I eat dinner at home with my family all of the time. I plan on keeping my nose out of trouble and running a clean program. Guess I just find it bizarre that it's news I didn't mess up."
Fans of Western Kentucky basketball applaud the way McDonald runs his program.
Said one fan, "It's great that he hasn't been arrested or all that other stuff. We actually prefer that WKU hoops is in the news for things that happen on the court and not all this extracurricular nonsense."

At the conclusion of today's Rick Pitino press conference, Pitino promised vengeance on anyone who dares report on his next scandal.
"I hate what the media did with this story," said Pitino. "Who cares what I did? No one was hurt until the big, bad media kept talking about it. But I promise you this, when I act unethically or break the law in the future, I promise you that I will get revenge. All I ask from Louisville Cardinal fans is to look away as I am getting revenge, because things could get ugly. Oh, and support the top 10 recruits I'm still going to bring in. And always remember that basketball games, more importantly winning a high percentage of basketball games, is, and should always be, the only thing talked about in Louisville. Well, maybe you could include the economy or politics or something. But basketball should be way up there."
Well said.

The NCAA announced today that they are dropping the controversial BCS system. Instead, they will use simulations from the popular video game EA Sports NCAA Football.
"I'm going to level with you. We have no clue how the BCS worked," said a representative of the NCAA. "Human polls, computers, drawing staws, coin flips and whatever else went into it. All we knew was that there would be two teams playing each other and one would be called a champion. So we've decided to drop the BCS system and utilize simulations from EA Sports. I mean these guys are REALLY good. They have the speed rating for the backup kicker from Montana State for crying out loud! It was the attention to detail by the people over at EA that led to a much improved college football championship system."
The NCAA said that despite dropping the BCS system for EA Sports simulations, they will still utilize bowl games. However, they have expanded from 34 bowl games to 60, and teams are only required to win 1 game instead of 6. The bowl season has also been expanded to run from December 20th until March 1st. The rational behind these moves is to make as much money off of student athletes as is humanly possible.

Much has been made recently about the easy schedule Notre Dame has for the 2009 season. Some may call several of their opponents cupcakes. Head coach Charlie Weis is disappointed that no actual cupcakes are on the schedule.
"I'd love to have a bye week where all we do is sit down and eat cupcakes," said Weis. "Cream puffs would have worked OK too. A cupcake or cream puff schedule for 2010 or 2011 would be fine with me."
Assistants later explained to Weis that a cupcake schedule simply means easy opponents, not a set time to eat cupcakes. Weis was quite emotional for the next 20-25 minutes.

Lou Holtz is making some crazy predictions. For example, he thinks that Notre Dame will play in this season's national championship game and take on Florida. He doesn't think Notre Dame will get there because of their easy schedule, he believes that the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-10 will just take the year off.
"I may say a lot of crazy things," said Holtz, "but the only way Notre Dame makes the national title game is if these 5 conferences take the year off. And if someone in the WAC beats Boise State. BYU, Utah and TCU would have to have a down year too. And we'd have to be living in the 70s or 80s."
Only time will tell if Holtz's wild prediction will come true. But if the chips fall in Notre Dame's favor, and the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-10 take the year off, and Boise State, BYU, Utah and TCU have down years, we could be looking at a Florida/Notre Dame championship match-up.

With the signing of head coach John Calipari, a great deal of excitement was created around Kentucky basketball. He has a history of recruiting great players that are able to focus on basketball, while not letting NCAA rules, academics or pursuing a degree get in the way. (SLAM Online) -- (Sparty and Friends)
The team will have high expectations, and the fans are looking forward to (vacating) several Final Fours under the eye of Calipari. They don't care about these previous "allegations" that probably weren't even true anyway. So what if he jumped ship again. (A Sea of Blue)
"I can't wait to advance to 4 or 5 Final Fours under Coach Calipari," said Rocky Durango, a lifelong Wildcats fan. "He is such a great coach. I just can't believe everyone is so hard on him for leaving Memphis. He is Kentucky's coach now, so leave him alone. Of course none of the Final Fours he will lead us to will officially count once the NCAA violations are discovered and wins are taken away, but it will still be fun to watch."
LuLu Yates, a Kentucky basketball fan since 1962, feels the same way.
"Sports are about fun and competition, not trophies," said LuLu. "We don't care about stuff like that here. So what if the team wins 3 NCAA championships and has them taken away. We live in the past at Kentucky, so we'll always remember the good times."

USC has dominated the PAC-10 in football while under Pete Carroll. Today, UCLA and the remaining PAC-10 schools have made it known publicly that they would like the Trojans to have a salary cap.
"We all pay players, who are we kidding. But there needs to be a limit. Not everyone has the resources of a USC," said a member of the Bruins staff, who would like to remain anonymous. "The rest of the PAC-10 can't compete if the playing field isn't leveled. It's pretty much like the Yankees and Red Sox in baseball. The rich keep getting richer."
No word yet from the PAC-10 offices on when or if a football salary cap would be implemented.
