Kind-Hearted Analyst Thinks Every Bubble Team Deserves Tournament Bid

It is the job of the college basketball analyst, or bracketologist, to correctly predict which NCAA bubble teams deserve to be in, and which should be out of the tournament. But after years of telling teams they aren't good enough, Joe Lunardi of ESPN has become more sensitive to the feelings of rejected teams, and believes everyone on the bubble deserves a bid for this year's field of 65.

"Year after year it gets more and more difficult," said Lunardi. "The RPI, strength of schedule, record versus the top 50, quality wins, bad losses, it's just so much information to comprehend for 347 schools. And we're supposed to tell college kids they shouldn't be able to play for a national title because their team's RPI was too low, or that they didn't have a good enough record versus the top 50? It's illogical and just not fair."

That belief of unfairness has led Lunardi to think that every bubble team has done enough to deserve a bid into the NCAA tournament.

"Every team on the bubble has worked so hard, it would be a shame for their season to end short of an NCAA tournament bid. Who am I to say that this team is better or that team is better, especially if they never met head to head? Let's leave that up to the hoity-toity selection committee. They probably just draw names out of a hat anyway."
