During tonight's ESPNU/Home Depot College Football Awards Show, Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh won the very coveted and prestigious 'Yeah, But He Doesn't Play Offense' Award. Suh most likely put himself over the top for the award with his dominating performance against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game.
"It's an honor to win the 'Yeah, But He Doesn't Play Offense' Award," said Suh. "There have been a lot of great players that didn't play on the offensive side of the ball to come before me, and I am just appreciative that I have been recognized as a great non-offensive player."
In addition to winning the 'Yeah, But He Doesn't Play Offense' Award, Suh has been invited as a finalist to the Heisman Trophy presentation, despite not even playing offense. Some people even think he's the best player in the country, virtually undeard of for someone that isn't a quarterback or a running back.
ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit agrees that Suh is a good football player, but thinks that some people are going a little overboard in thinking that he's the nation's best player.
"Suh is pretty good, but look at guys like Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy who play quarterback," said Herbstreit. "McCoy threw for over three thousand yards and had twenty-seven touchdown passes. I don't think Suh had even one touchdown pass. It's going to be rather difficult for him to get enough votes to win the Heisman with awful stats like that."
