First he announced his resignation due to health reasons, then he quickly backtracked and said he will just be taking a leave of absence. Now, Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer has announced a plan to retain his role while still spending more time with his family. Next season he will be coaching the team from the comfort of his family room.
"It's the best of both worlds. I can't believe no one thought of this sooner," said Meyer. "I still get to have my multi-million dollar job as head coach all while spending more time with my family. Plus, this should greatly improve my vague health condition that required I be resuscitated two to three times per day."
Details of the arrangement have yet to be worked out, but with today's technological advances, Meyer isn't worried.
"There's text, Skype, IM, you name it. I'll always be in touch with my staff, so communication shouldn't be a problem. Plus, I can conduct team meetings from the comfort of my home while still wearing pajamas."
It is an unusual set-up, but Meyer feels this is the best way to stay involved with the Gators while still having increased family time.
"We looked at other options, but there was no way I was going to name my wife offensive coordinator."
