The Arizona Cardinals were blown out 45-14 by the New Orleans Saints in their playoff game on Saturday, and were hurt by the loss of quarterback Kurt Warner. After several minutes of careful consideration on his way to the visitors locker room, Warner decided to call it a career and retired on the spot.
Coaches and teammates were understandably shocked, and feel that Warner is stepping away from the game much too soon.
"We didn't know what to think," said the still shook up Matt Leinart. "I mean we were already down by a bunch, and then Kurt comes up to me and says 'I'm done'. I was like 'Kurt, you gotta reconsider. I'm begging you. Please finish this game. I haven't looked at the playbook in about six weeks, and I'm nursing a pretty wicked hangover.'"
Despite having the ability to play at a high level, not to mention the desperate pleading from Leinart, Warner was confident that he had made the right decision.
"Well, I always said that this decision making process would not be a long one for me," said Warner. "And sure enough it wasn't. It took about 4 minutes on the way from the sideline to the locker room."
