Florida Governor Charlie Crist approached Jacksonville Jaguars management with a suggestion to boost attendance and hopefully help keep the team in Florida. He thinks it would be a great idea if the franchise dropped the Jaguars moniker and adopted a new 'Fighting Tebows' nickname, after current Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow.
"The name change only makes sense," said Governor Crist, beaming with pride over what he viewed as a great idea. "Floridians who are football fans identify with Tim Tebow, even if you are an FSU or Miami fan. If a team were to name themselves after Tim Tebow, I can't imagine how many tickets they could sell."
It is unclear to whom Crist spoke within the Jaguars organization, or if they were receptive to the new nickname idea, which then led to Crist discussing his plans for the new logo.
"There are several ideas I have for the Fighting Tebows logo. I think anything from a silhouette, to some type of image depicting an emotional, screaming Tebow would work. Or maybe that GQ picture where he had his shirt off."
Crist knows his ideas are a little outside the box, but thinks that the Jacksonville franchise should strongly consider a move to become the Fighting Tebows.
"He could save the franchise and keep them in northern Florida. He could save the entire state. I'd appoint him governor, but then I'd be out of a job so that idea is clearly out. Maybe we can just rename Florida. I'm thinking possibly Tebowland or New Tebow. I don't know. Let's rename football teams first before we get too crazy."
