Overprotective Colts head coach Jim Caldwell has decided to lock his star quarterback Peyton Manning in a padded room for the next few weeks. Caldwell says the extreme measure had to be taken to ensure that his franchise player stays healthy.
"Peyton's a competitor, and he obviously wants to compete," said Caldwell. "But I stand by my decision to protect him from injury. As a result, our coaching staff has decided to lock Peyton in a padded room at Lucas Oil Stadium for the next few weeks. The chances of him suffering an injury in that environment will be minimal."
Caldwell plans to free Manning two to three hours before the Colts take the field for their first playoff game in mid-January.
"He's a professional, so two to three hours of practice should give him enough opportunity to get his timing back regarding our intricate passing game. At least we hope two to three hours is enough time. It better be. He certainly can't throw passes to Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark while locked in that tiny padded room. That's just ludicrous."
